PCMCIA

I did not expect to have any problems with this, and was not disappointed, it first worked out of the box with Redhat 6.2, running 2.2.14 Kernel, and even with the upgrade to 2.4.xx there where no problems at all.

What you need

One thing to note with the upgrade to 2.4.xx Kernels you need to load the pre-requisites. Have a look at the Linux PCMCIA Information pages for more information.

Tested Cards

There is a list of supported cards, if thats not enough, I have personally tested the following cards which are all 100% functional in the Picturebook.

Linksys PMCLM56 modem/Nic combo
3com 3c574TX nic
Adaptec AHA1460A
Lucent wireless gold card
CISCO aironet PCM342
Linksys WPC11

BTW. I was running the NICs at 100MB Full Duplex.

Final Thoughts

One thing that got me with the 2.4.xx Kernel build, was that I did not include serial port support, logical yes? well no, sure the machines not got a port but what about the PCMCIA modem?? I rest my case! be warned it got me, it could get you also.
