Words of Apple
When I added a Mac running OSX, to my normal UNIX/Linux environment, and having worked in the UNIX world for many years, various friends told me that I would have a some what unique prospective with regard to all things apple, and so should add a dedicated apple section to this site. A interesting idea..
Anyway after thinking it over for a quite a while, I finally got around to doing just that, and this page is the start of my new "Words of Apple" writings, which will include all sorts of goodies, such as reviews, technical howtos, download collections, general thoughts and even the odd rant.
Before moving onto the interesting stuff, a short message for those who questioned my sanity for even considering going Mac. Are they right? have I got totally nuts? Well, the answers a definite no on both counts, I have not abandoned the mighty penguin, nor have I done anything that would pollute my 100% Microsoft free world, what I have done is add a new avenue to the UNIX/Linux I have worked with for many years.
UPDATE: After several emails, all asking for a way to bypass the next few paragraphs, so with this update, I have done just that, so here it is, Take me to the apple writings index
A good place to start is my thinking behind the move, which unlike the usual "switch stories", include some totally unbiased comments. Anyway for those interested the full "tale of moving to a mac" is available here. And as always I welcome constructive feedback
Moving on from my thinking behind the Mac, next comes the experiences of my first few months with my shinney new Powerbook, covering all sorts of things from the trials of getting support, getting it to talk to my wireless LAN, to a pile of bugs in OSX and various apps. Think of this one as a cross between a review, blog and mini-rant, and yes that means you get all, the good, bad, why and finally the "Oh my god". This tale is available here and will soon be mirrored on a number of other sites.
Next comes the continuing tale of my experiences with the Powerbook, moving on to talking about the trials of using the internal DVD burner, plus adding external storage, which, while on the subject, moves on nicely to the first part which talks in detail about the nightmare combination of OSX and Firewire storage. I digress yet again, so back to the experiences with my powerbook, I see this series of articles going on for a while so expect a index to be available at some point, until then the latest part is available here
One of the more notable events in my journey into the Mac world was the launch of OSX 10.3, and yes it was notable for all the wrong reasons, err well, in the beginning anyway, later on things did improve. Anyway I have written a very in depth review of this new version of OSX, this review is fast turning into a monster, so I gave up fighting and gave it its own home as part of this new apple writings pages. Read the full review here, which BTW is soon to be mirrored on several other sites.
Enough of my waffle here is the full index of all my Apple writings. And at the risk of repeating myself, I do really welcome constructive feedback.
